Setting Up Social Backbone
It’s been a while for me to write a new post. So you’ve managed to create some authority and finally made it to the first page of Google? Well, here’s an SEO tip that will surely make your rankings stable. Sending out interlinked social signals will not only make your rankings to stay steady, it will also boost every post and page that you publish.
Ranking first page will make you feel great but if your rankings fluctuate, you will feel a bit worried. Everyone wants to stay at least on the first page. Who would like to lose their current rankings? Building trust is a major step for your site to rank. This will make your site rankings steady in the long run. And in order to build trust, you need to: (1) create a social backbone and (2) create natural trust links to your site. Okay, let’s get started then.
First thing to do is to solidify your social profile by creating social media profiles and interlinking them together. You will need a Gmail for this. The reason is that Gmail can be used on almost all social medias and so you don’t have to have or create multiple email accounts. Here’s a list of the social profiles you will want to create an account on. Make sure to list all of the public profile URLs because you will be needing them later on.
When creating the profiles, you can either (1) use your personal information or (2) fake identities. If you want to be anonymous, you can use fakenamegenerator to generate information such as name, address, phone number, etc. It is really up to you because whatever information you put into these social accounts will not have an impact on your rankings.
To make this post direct to the point as much as possible, I will not go into details on how to create each and every account. Instead, I will guide you on how to optimize each and every social account.
After creating a Facebook account, the best way is to use your current one. This will save you time. Since Google is not that advance when it comes to tracking, you will be fine. Create a fan page and fill out the “About” and “Contact Info” sections. Make sure to add your keyword in the description. Add your website URL and other social media profiles that you will create later on. Do it like this:
This is going to be easy because Twitter likes it simple! Put your keywords in the short description and make sure to get a link. You can also increase the trust level by getting real or fake followers. It doesn’t really matter because once you tweet, it gets posted onto their feeds giving a slight social signal. Here’s a screenshot.
This will play a significant role on your trust building. When doing blog comments, the comments direct back to Gravatar which will direct back to your website and all the other social profile links on your Gravatar account. So when comments are left on relevant posts and pages, your rankings will get a boost. So all you have to do is (1) create an account, (2) put a relevant description, (3) upload an image and (4) put your website link and link your other social media profiles. Set it up like this.
A great site to get a social link from. Best way is to fill out your profile with relevant information about the site you will be linking to. Make it realistic as possible in order to avoid account deletion. Get a link to your website, Gravatar and Google+. Why Gravatar and Google+? It’s because these two are the “holders” or “connectors” of most of your profile links.
TAKE NOTE! Adding a Google+ URL will redirect it to a 404 Page. So how will you link your Google plus profile to your LinkedIn profile? Simple, here are the steps:
- Grab your Google plus URL, and search it on Google. Newly created Google plus accounts would take days (oh the irony) to get indexed, so wait for it to get indexed in order to add it. So it would show up like this.
- Do not open it. Just right-click the link and click copy. So the link that you’ve grabbed should look like: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCYQFjAA
- Add that link to your LinkedIn links and voila! You have successfully linked your Google plus to your LinkedIn!
This is also a great place to put a relevant description, website and social media profile links. Just use your existing Google account to sign up for a YouTube account. Open up a channel and manage your profile. Check out the screenshot on how it should be done.
You don’t want to make a mistake when setting it up! This is the most important social media profile when it comes to connecting and sending out social signals. Okay, let’s do this.
- First, make a Google+ profile. Fill up the tagline, introduction and bragging rights fields with the best description. Don’t forget to put in keywords. Check mine.
- The next step is to create your links. This is going to be easy. Go back to the list of social media profiles that you have created. Grab the URLs and paste it where possible.
- Finally, setup Google Authorship. To successfully do this, you need to
- place a link to your website under the “Contributor To” section.
- Install this plugin in your website. After installing the plugin, grab your Google plus profile URL and put it in the field created by the plugin on your site. You can find this under “User” profile on your WordPress site.
And that’s it! Wait for about a week or so for your Google Authorship to show up in the SERPs.
Building Trust Links
This is where you build trust links which Google loves. Well, this is really self explanatory and you only need common sense to do and understand the process. So for example, your blog is ranking for SEO terms it only means that you are a big site in the search industry and it means that it had links coming from other big sites in the same niche.
In contrary, it would be very suspicious if your site is ranking highly but don’t have links on these sites. These sites are in the form of blogs, forums and social sites in the niche.
So where can you find these sites? Basically, these big sites are the “authority” in your niche. For example, in the SEO industry, sites like Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal are big social sites. While Warrior Forum and Black Hat World are the top forum sites in the niche. And MOZ and SEO book are the top SEO blogs. Now if you’re on the SEO niche then you would really want to build some links from these sites.
How to get links from these sites? A guest post perhaps? How about NO?! Because that would be next to impossible!
So now what? Easy, remember that Gravatar you’ve created a while ago? Put that to use! How? Just by creating any form of simple links.
So that’s it? Crappy comment links? Yes! These crappy comment links will have the same score in MajesticSEO in terms of citation and trust flow thus giving your site a boost in rankings. All you have to do is go out there and leave a helpful comment. Never use a keyword in the “Name” field as this will be rejected by the moderator. Use a name and put the email associated with your Gravatar instead. Just imagine how this works with all the interlinked profiles.
Just look at the citation and trust flow this comment yielded. This is a blog comment from Jason Acidre‘s blog post – KaiserTheSage, one of the best Pinoy (Filipino) SEO’r in the industry!
You can always use other SEO tools to find a blog post/page to comment on. One tool I use the most is DropMyLink in combination with SEO for chrome or SEO quake. The two latter tools are used to easily identify which blog has a PR1 and up. You don’t want to build links on a PR0 site/blog. The tool is self explanatory. Just type in your keyword and choose from the drop down menu the type of blog you want to search for.
Before I end up this post, I would like to remind you that you should not use spam. Everyone hates spam. Don’t let people tag SEO as spam.
